Hot Gardening Action
Good morning! Hello! How are you? I am good. Little bit sore. Lot sore, actually. I moved a recliner downstairs for my mom to try. It wasn't right, so then Emma and I moved it back upstairs. And I spent several hours on my feet yesterday GARDENING. And it was so fun. I am going to do it again today. And the sun is SHINING. WOO.
Yes big gardening day. I split about half of my tomato seedlings. You know, you put three seeds in a cell and if they all actually start, at some point you need to thin them or separate them into separate cells so they can continue to grow. So I did that to one 72-cell tray of tomato seedlngs, so now it is TWO 72-cell trays of tomato seedlings. I have another tray of them as well, but the whole process felt so violent and invasive I couldn't shake the feeling i was killing all my tomatoes, so I am not gonna do the other one till next week.
I also got the new cardboard shredder up and running and my god it is the greatest thing. Shredding cardboard RULES. Gonna add a ton of it to the compost today along with all the nitrogen stuff. I gotta get that pile churning again. I am also making a short video review about it because when I was researching which shredders are best for cardboard, there was very little solid content. So I am going to make some for the next person. And I'm gonna do this with my OTHER shredder that should be coming today - for pine needles. Pine needle shredding youtube is very thinly populated. And yes, after this one arrives I will now own FOUR shredders. I FUCKIGN LOVE SHREDDERS.
In other news, today marks one year of Quarantine for us. More or less. We closed the office one year ago, while I was sitting at Laguardia in my beloved sky lounge on the way home. I feel like I wrote this already too. But i feel like it's worth marking. It's so weird to think about the quarantine because it's been.... so many phases. That first phase was almost FUN. A relief from not traveling and hey! Let's all bake! The dark times hadn't really started yet. Except, of course, New York City. When this global disease was really a New York disease in America. And Cuomo seemed like a good governor (though I ALREADY KNEW he was bad, thanks Peter Feld). Sourdough bread and Zoom actually being fun, before the fall when so many people started dying. So many people. Before people started losing it, but after we realized that maybe we didn't need to wash our Doritos in soap. What a year. What a crazy year.
Finished Wandavision last night and while I don't want to spoil it I will say I didn't LOOOVE the ending but I very much liked the show. Endings are hard. I *will* say that Kevin Feige needs to stop being a prima donna about Marvel's Agents of Shield because it is doing the fans a massive disservice and is now going to be stupid confusing. THERE IS ALREADY A DARKHOLD. JEZUS.
Sold the Daft Punk Tron Legacy soundtrack (and deeply regret it) and have been listening to it yesterday and today and it is awesome and now I want it on Vinyl but even the re-issues are like $200 and that sucks.
OK, well, I gotta get going. Get back out there and GARDEN SOME MORE. Gonna put together my two giant Birdie's Beds containers and deal with the compost today and if I can pull both of those things off, I am going to start on the new compost bins. EXCITING. Gonna be a lot of soil amendments going on today, let me tell you.
Mix ahoy. Just a mix. First three songs are just brilliant, though, I am telling you. This mix starts off real strong. Also I just love that Brian Jonestown Massacre song. I was listening to it while walking through Southern Village looking at all these people playing pickleball without masks and it just seemed... fitting. Can't explain it. It's a little mean, but it's also a lot true. Shit, yeah, man this mix delivers. That Thurston Moore song is fantastic. And I've been trying to remember that Iron & Wine song for AGES and I couldn't find it because in my head it was Eric Bachmann so I'm so glad I finally figured it out.
Welp. Lovely days to all. Gonna go get my baby now. Hopefully I can convince her to assemble Birdie's Beds. Yesterday I didn't need to, because I forgot it was only Friday and Janet was coming over to take her off my hands. But i shall have no relief today! GARDENING WITH JANE. Have a lovely Saturday!
