Good morning. Hello. How are you? Oh hey, it’s the one after 909. Gotta make a callback to that Beatles joke yesterday. Move over once, move over twice, etc. etc.
It is Friday. Happy Friday. I have it off. And Monday, for Juneteenth, so a four-day weekend. Jane is at Grammy’s this morning. I am excited. Much to do, much to do. I almost skipped writing this, I’m so excited about CHORES. Chores! woo! yeah! Gonna go to the recycling center and Walmart and Lowe’s and the Food Bank to drop off those egg cartons. So much work to do on the new house.
Thanks to Todd Osborne for identifying all of the speakers and components in that photo yesterday. That stuff is expensive! I messaged the woman putting on the estate sale asking if she was accepting offers in advance or has a price list or anything. No answer. I’ll still swing by tomorrow morning. But if she knows the value of the things she’s selling it’ll all be out of my price range. But who knows. It’s a nice drive if nothing else.
And, even more weirdly, thank you to Mike Gatti for giving me closure on where my Klipsch kg 4.2’s went to. The answer is that they are in Mike’s office, still being used, still sounding great. I left them in the Barbarian Boston office, and when that office closed down, I gave them to Mike Gatti. So not only a) do the speakers have a good home and are getting regular use, which is just awesome, but b) fifteen years later Gatti happened to be reading GMHHAY and provided me closure. That really is something. Friendships rule.
Here’s a bonkers thing: The dems are, rightfully, trying to change which state gets the first Democratic presidential primary. But they did it in a way that did not really consult with Iowa and New Hampshire, which, I suppose is understandable. Not like Iowa and New Hampshire are going to say “sure, sure, no problem, take this thing from us that is a core part of our identity.” So as a consequence, New Hampshire and Iowa are still going to go ahead with their primaries, without Democratic National Party support, which as a consequence means without Biden’s support, which as a consequence now means that there is a good chance that RFK Jr. will win the first to Democratic primaries. Awesome. Just awesome. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, etc. etc.
Also fun new surveys here in North Carolina — which is doubtlessly true everywhere — that a small but significant minority of those beloved centrists that voted for Biden this time harbor significant concerns about his age. Because Biden is too old! And there’s nothing to be done about it, we’re just gonna waltz right into this whole potentially Republic-ending affair going “oh well whaddyagonna do.”
YAY. This is going to be so great. My health is totally gonna be just fine through this election. May as well just pluck my hair out now.
The Fed did not raise interest rates at their meeting this week, so I guess that’s a good thing and I should take a beat to acknowledge this good news. The whole is not completely fucked up.
Breathe.
“We are but empty vessels.”
I wrote that line in a work email this week. Am I losing it or trying to find my inner Ted Lasso. Who can say, who can say.
One great new thing about my new computer is that it is Apple Silicon which means that I can run iOS apps on it which means that I can run my 2FA app Authy on it, which is SO AWESOME. Is this a slight security breach? I mean, yes, I suppose so. You could come to my property, get through the security system and door locks and password on my computer and log into one of my 2FA-protected Apps. Without also knowing the passcode of the phone next to the computer.
But my god, the convenience.
Oh hey look at this pool our pool contracting company is just finishing up. I’m telling you! It is a real thing!
Oh and I took a picture of the finished workbench. And I found a before photo. So here you go:
Temporary top. Is it a little curved in the middle? Yes, yes. 1 inch of plywood not enough for that span. Jack pole coming for temporary support. I am going to make a more sturdy one once the entire shop is set up.
I will try and be better about taking progress photos on these projects for you.
And in the meantime here is a picture of Jane taking a break from her parkour stroll around Southern Village yesterday. Jumping off of low retaining walls and doing a twist midair can be a lot of work. But look at that shirt she chose yesterday. C’mon.
And a playlist! W Hotel Lobby in a Better, Alternate Universe. It is 58 seconds short, sorry. It is all new. Art is lovely. That was a typo but I’m gonna roll with it.
OK that’s all I got for you today. Have a lovely weekend.
