Good morning. Hello. How are you? #799
More McCarthy shadenfreude I can't help it, some YouTubers getting harrassed, a new Sony car, and a new idea bout my fig cutting.
Good morning, friend. How are you? I am good. Still testing negative. Will get out of this man cave any moment now, honest. Will be good to see my wife and daughter in the flesh and give them hugs and kisses. Still a little tired, but, then, work has been intense, and I haven’t been getting any exercise, so who knows. We’ll see how I feel after our first walk up the big hill in the neighborhood.
I a so excited to finally have Christmas.
I guess today’s issue is basically just a repeat of yesterday’s issue, because man was that a good time watching Kevin McCarthy fail. I watched as much as I could of it during the day, but I had a lot of calls, but I kept the Kevin votes on in the background. My friend Tim said he’d love to get those soothing vote calls as a screensaver or something, and yeah, that would be really great. I could listen to Kevin McCarthy lose a speakership vote all day.
I am really experiencing an unseemly amount of schadenfreude, even though there is absolutely no way that this is going to end in some way that’s actually good for me, or for Dems. It’s not like Steve Scalise is any better. Or even Patrick McHenry.
I will say, though, that was absolute BS when they called that vote to adjourn for the yeas. In a normal vote in the house, that fifteen minute timer is the minimum, and the speaker can routinely leave the vote open for longer, until they get the vote count they want. But we are not operating in a normal house, and there are no special rules and the vote should have stopped when the counter stopped. When the counter stopped, the nays had it, which means a majority of the house did not want to adjourn, which means they would have had to do… something else. But the clerk, who is running the house right now, just patiently waited for a bunch of people to change their votes. I mean, practically speaking, this was probably fine, because in the end, that’s how they wanted to vote, and once everyone realized that, they would have just done another vote properly and then adjourned, but it would have been fun to see them fail even at adjournment.
The show starts again at noon. I have no idea what’s going to happen. I am sleeping too late. I haven’t read the news and rumors this morning.
I am still slightly groggy, if I’m being honest.
Here is a pretty picture I took this morning:
I was watching my YouTubes last night (Gen X for back when your grammy used to say she needed to watch “her shows” or “her stories) and there is this home imorovement channel I’ve watched for a few years. Just a nice couple who are slowly building a very pretty A-frame and awesome garden and shit on an empty lot somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Nothing special but always really enjoyed them. I probaby watch five or six channels like this: couples building houses and homes. Anyway, yesterday they put out their first video in a while. I hadn’t realized it had been a while because, like I said, I watch a lot of these people. But this video was different and it detailed an extensive, rampant, absolutely batshit harassment campaign that the internet has sicc’d on them. People intruding on their property, doxxing them, going on and on about how they are… completely fake? For some reason? And then of course it goes from them being fake to being child abusers somehow because everyone you don’t like on the internet is actually also a child abuser I guess. It really was kind of nuts how extensive the whole thing is. Like these people have done massive SEO so you find their evil sites instead of the real channel.
The whole thing was really disturbing. And they said that… this happens to a lot of YouTubers? I mean, that is a problem! That is a problem for YouTube! Why would anyone become a YouTuber if they’re just gonna get harassed off the platform and have the cops called on them because… someone believes you’re making it up? Or something?
Man the internet is so fun until all of the sudden you do one random thing and people decide to make you the main character and ruin your life.
Also the internet is terrible.
Sony made a car. With Toyota. Well, they’re going to make a car. In 2026 it’ll be in the US. I don’t think it looks as bad as everyone else thinks it looks but: a) it has a dumb name, Afeela, which I am not sure is the name of the model or the make, but I don’t like it, though it’s kinda funny how it sounds like “I feel you.” Okay, actually maybe that is all right. And b) it has this funny led screen on the end of the hood where the badge goes, and often, the led screen does show the badge, but it can also show other stuff. They showed it doing a few other things: ripping off Knight Rider and having a little dot go back and forth which, okay, my inner teenager is kinda excited. They showed it being a battery indicator, which I thought was pretty interesting. A few other cars have done this recently, but my friend Ryan tells me that a lot of them are giving an option to turn it off because it is causing issues at public charging stations, which makes total sense. People will get annoyed that your car is taking up one of a limited number of charging bays when your car is fully charged. And then also they showed it… displaying an ad for a Spiderman PS5 game? What the Hell? I can think of zero instances where anyone would ever want this? How is this a good idea? I am completely stumped.
Also, I didn’t get any specs on the car. Also it looks kinda boring, but not terrible? But, I mean, I think I like the idea of Sony getting into the car game. Toyota has been useless themsleves in the BEV market, just major, historic corporate fumble. And I don’t know if this Afeela thingamabob is in addition to whatever joke of an EV endeavor Toyota is doing or in tandem with. I hope the latter. And I hope it has decent specs. Shit by 2026 you’re gonna need, like, a 400 mile range and 600 watt charging or something.
I finally got around and did some Googling about my fig tree yesterday (thank you Jen) and it seems that it needs a little mini greenhouse. They say use the bottom of a 2-liter bottle, but i think mine is a bit too big for that and also I don’t have any, but I will think of somethign. Makes sense. The little guy needs to be warm to get out of bed. Lord knows I sympathize.
A W Hotel in a Better, Alternate Universe mix for you today, though I gotta admit of late these are probably getting close to turning into actual W Hotel mixes, but at least my two independent sources checking in on the Amsterdam W Hotel recently confirm my mixes are still a little better, at least. Almost all new except for one of the Beaumont Hannant Lida Husik collabs from back in, like, 1992 or something like that, really just one of the best collaborations of all time, I loved both the Beaumont stuff with Lida and the Lida stuff with Beaumont. They were the Emma Ruth Rundle and Thou of their day, except ambient house instead of death metal. Man that will probably make sense to no one.
Have a lovely Thusday. Miss you.
