Good morning. Hello. How are you? #623
Several topics with short furry paragraphs gathered together in a post and grooving with a pic.
Good morning. Hello, there, friend. How is your Friday going so far? Mine is going okay, though today’s Wordle was bullshit. I hate Wordles like that. Both times now that I have lost at Wordle have been this exact sort of Wordle. Not hard, just… endless. Grr. Whoops. Spoilers. I will shut up.
While I’m griping, can I just say that my Safari browser has slowed down to a crawl and it is super annoying? Like it takes five seconds to process a Google query typed into the location bar. Yesterday it took so long loading Twitter that I opened another browser, typed in www.twitter.com and the site loaded, all in the time I was waiting for Safari to start loading. It clearly needs some sort of reset but I don’t feel like going and reading some dumb tech support articles with too many banner ads on them, clearing all the chaches, delving into some stupid folder and deleting plists and stuff, I want it to just work like Papa Steve told me things were supposed to.
On the plus side, I just listened to a new Pink Floyd song for the first time in like thirty years so that was pretty weird. I mean there are not a lot of Pink Floydians left in Pink Floyd these days, it’s true but getting any two of them together under the moniker Pink Floyd is a rarity. On the minus side the song sounds nothing like Pink Floyd. On the plus side, it’s in Ukranian and part of a Ukranian benefit so good for them. Weirdly just the other day I was talking to Emma about Pink Floyd and how I am a rarity amongst Pink Floyd fans in that I love all eras of Pink Floyd. I love Saucerful of Secrets as much as Endless River as much as Animals. I probably love Dark Side least of all. I probably love Delicate Sound of Thunder most, and Ummagumma next most. This is not normal for a Pink Floyd fan. I love all the “main Pink Floyd guys” equally.
Also on the plus side, let us all take a moment and congratulate Ketanji Brown Jackson on her nomination what a momentus moment in American history, even though it is fucking absolutely ridiculous it took this long to put a black woman on the court, or even a fucking public defender and even though the Supreme Court is still a ridiculous institution and Brett Kavanaugh needs to be impeached and Elie Mystal is right the court should be expanded to twenty people at least.
I regret to inform you guys that the Italians totally stood me up yesterday, so I completely changed my schedule, got Grammy to switch days watching Jane, and lost my Jane-free, day-off morning this morning that I was going to spend gardning all in order to make this call at the time convenient to them and they stood me up completely. They didn’t even email. Not annoyed at all nope nope nope.
Finished the re-watch of Twilight yesterday and I had completely forgotten about that baseball scene you guys all mentioned but oh yeah that was so dumb. So dumb. The second half of Twilight is manifestly less good that the first half, so if you are considering re-watching Twilight, stop right after Bella figures out Edward is a vampire. It’s all downhill from there. Of course, now I’m considering whatching the other two which I know is such a bad idea but… what else do we have in this world these days, I ask you. We also finished this season of Severance which was fucking awesome and intense and that was some solid TV. And we watched the latest episode of Picard which was not that awesome but could have been but for a few dumb little mistakes. That show is almost good and I wish it was better because it could be. Really drove it home watching it right before Severance which is just such better television it’s not even funny. Why do people not make good Trek it would be so easy to make good Trek in an era where people make big deep think sci-fi all the time! Like the thing that was supposedly a drawback to Trek’s popularity for fifty years is now a hugely popular thing on TV but they just… don’t take advantage of that. Everyone working on the Trek franchise has institutionalized fear of deep-think sci fi it is absurd.
I guess we have rock shows, rock shows are back. I bought tickets for Bauhaus in Boston for the fall so maybe I’ll see you guys again then. In an hour or so, I’m also buying Legendary Pink Dots tickets for the fall at Cat’s Cradle which will be exciting I haven’t seen the Pink Dots in so long. Hrm actually I think I have a photo I took of Edward Ka Spel at Limelight in, like, 1993 or something. Hold please. Hrm nope seems I do not have that scanned. Well there’s a thing I’ll have to dig up. I thought I had everything scanned. Challenge accepted!
I think I’m gonna start cross-posting smidges of these to my Tumblr again. Might as well start using Tumblr again, right? It’s the hot new thing? Hrm I guess I would need to find some version of the old Tumblr Chrome extension for Safari so I could do that cool thing where you highlighted some text and it automatically formatted a quote post with the highlighted text as the quote and the URL as the link, man that was some convenient shit.
Gonna do some serious gardening this weekend I am very exicted. No more frost! Right? Right? Sure, let’s go with that. Average means ever, right? Looks like tomorow night gets down to 35 but after that the lows are in the 50s and 60s so I think we’re probably in the clear. I will only plant more cold hardy stuff today to be safe — lettuce and spinach and whatnot. Save the basils and peppers till after the 35 night. Oh man this is so exciting I can’t stand it it is going to rule gardening is the best. I can’t wait to get my tomatoes in the ground.
AND, I think I’m going to try and take Jane to the doctor this morning for her blood draw because I am a glutton for punishment and also I need her to get that allergy test because her allergies are reall bothering her and I want to know what we’re facing. It is stressing me out. I don’t know if they do the sublingual drops on kids but that would be great, aside from the part of convincing her to not swallow for three minutes every morning. I gotta say, between the drops, the Azelastine, the Flonase and the Claratin, I really don’t have too bad of allergy problems anymore. It’s quite the cocktail but it mostly does the job except on the absolute worst of the days, where I might have to take some advile and Chlor-Trimeton to augment.
All right well yesterday I was thinking a lot about high school and my high school friends and girlfriend, Frank and Anne and Mary and Janet and Tina and Ann and it got me very nostalgic. I guess specifically I was thinking about sophomore year, not junior and senior when the music we all listened to got cooler and I got to be friends with like Renee and Pam and Carrie and Val and Annie and Dan and Larry and such. But earlier than that. Before I learned about Love and Rockets and the Jesus and Mary Chain. And the music I would listen to before that, that these days think is pretty cool, but back then, after I found “cool” music I didn’t listen to as much for, like, ten years. So I whipped up this little playlist that really captures a moment for me. There were so many more I could have added to it, maybe I’ll make a Wolfpack Sophomore vol 2 some time.
Also to this day I can vividly remember the moment when Annie Duffy introduced me to the Violent Femmes, we were sitting in the theater during drama club and she put the headphones on my head and it was “Add it Up” and I was like “I’ve never heard anything about this this is amazing.” Annie was wonderful, I miss her so much.
Have a lovely weekend.
