Good morning. Hello. How are you? Alrite, then luv? Have you been following this 5G vs the Airlines stuff? It is crazy! Crazy! Like I am not a big booster of bashing the federal government, and I even used to run a blog that was just a list of unseen good things the government managed to do all the time, and have often believed that large swaths of the federal government do their jobs competently and well even when some lunatic(s) is/are in charge of the whole thing. But man, those Republicans have really been doing a great job making me question this. The ongoing embarrassment at the CDC, and now this debacle, where the FCC and the FAA seem like they can’t get even the most basic shit together. So now we have groups of large behemoth companies in the US ganging up and fighting each other: the cell carriers vs the airlines, just sort of making up rules and truces every week or two while the government continues to be mostly useless.
Also I will say that my powerwalls are no longer going to have cell service because of this 5G FCC auction, and so I have to hook them up to my WiFi to get info from them, which is, of course, complete bullshit since, you know, your WiFi can sometimes be problematic in a fucking power outage.
I have so many meetings today. Kinda stressful. I don’t like a day with more than, mm, imagonna say, two meetings anymore. I used to have ten, twelve meetings a day, just go from one meeting to the next, like a zombie, it was awful. I am not particularly into it anymore. Now I think a day without meetings is obviously the best. A day with one, maybe two meetings, clumped together, right before or right after lunch is next best. Anything other than that and your day is ruined, because you don’t have a good stretch to get anything done, and I am so over that.
Speaking of getting things done, I managed to get two things done yesterday, so, you know, go me. I finally got around to applying for forgiveness on our tranche 2 of our PPP loan. I was waiting for the accountants to get me some documentation, took them about six weeks. There was a honeymoon involved. But it’s all done, I am very excited.
I also managed to get the HOA financial annual report done and send out to everyone notification for 2022 HOA dues. I completely spaced it on that one till our faithful HOA president asked me when it was going to happen. LOL I am not a good hobbyist treasurer.
Oo let’s bitch about some more stuff!
Elon Musk is a petty asshole who tried to get a lawyer fired at his own law firm, who wasn’t even working on his account, because the lawyer had previously worked at the SEC on the very reasonable, absolutely valid SEC case where they prosecuted Musk for completely lying about taking Tesla private with funding secured and the price at $4.20. It was a completely batshit thing to do, full-on stock manipulation, and totally illegal. So the government did its job and prosecuted him (barely, and then gave up when he continued to flagrantly violate the terms of the settlement, but that is another story). And now he’s all butthurt and because the law firm, Cooley, wouldn’t fire this dude, he is firing Cooley. What a baby. I suppose there was a universe where the richest person in the world wasn’t a manchild, but we’ve yet to live in it, huh. At least not in our lifetimes. Bill Gates came close but, whoops.
The Supreme Court is a joke and Neil Gorsuch is an asshole who isn’t wearing a mask at the bench, causing Sotomoyer to have to phone into things because she has some health issues, and he is doing this despite a request from the Chief Justice to wear a mask and, honestly, if we lived in the country our founding fathers actually thought we did, that dude would be impeached. Imagine explaining to George Washington that there was a dude on the bench who wasnt taking basic protections from the Bubonic Plague or something. Definitely sure he’d be like ‘lol that’s fine as long as it owns the libs.” Also their interpretation of the OSHA statute is fucking batshit and not only illogical, but 100% contrary to their most popular explanation when they shoot down laws: that congress didn’t specifically grant them. In this case, congress 100%, very obviously, specifically granted them, but LOL, nope, just kidding. Also Scalia looooves to pretend intent of the lawmakers matters, but only if it is dead people. People who voted for, drafted the OSHA regulations, some of them are still alive. You could just ask them but NOPE.
A thing that I mentioned in GMHHAY at some point last year was that I should just do a “depressing roundup” edition, once a week or something. I don’t think I’m quite in that depressed of a mood today, but it is not a bad idea, really. Maybe some day we’re all feeling all right. Maybe Thursday. No one has anything against Thursday, right?
The government soft-launched its site for ordering free COVID tests. Apparently you get four per household which, you know, I suppose is better than nothing. You can order them here. It’s a soft launch and apparently the site is broken if you put your apartment number in the second field, so put it in the first I guess, but at least it’s a soft launch so they have an excuse, right? I’ve done worse.
Started the last season of The Expanse last night. It is short. Six episodes, and TV-hour long, so 44 minutes. I am sad it’s ending, but boy is it nice to see a boy scout on the screen who just tries to do the right thing all the time, even if it sometimes accidentally leads to, you know, complete catstrophy. Also James Holden has a very good knack for saying the right thing to crew members who are in crisis. He is a very good manager. I would read a James Holden’s Guide to Management. I’m sad they’re not doing the rest of the books, but I understand there’s a time-jump in them? Maybe they’re secretly planning to pull a Star Wars and wait the commensurate number of years in the real world, parallel to the in-universe time jump, before doing the next season. I do love a real-world-matches-story-world time jump, though I suppose I am getting too old for multi-decade time jumps in my literature. Life is short.
Let’s do a country mix! Been a while. Since, like, October, I think? It’s a good one, though. Lotta ladies. Mix of old and new. I was gona add JT Earle so I had two father-child pairings on here, but in the end there wasn’t enough room, alas.
I just want you to know that I had severe writer’s block today and getting this edition out was like pulling teeth. Took like an hour. Also I had a dream that my mother owned the McDonald’s on Canal at Broadway and kept a small apartment above it, that was very useful for New York trips.
