Good morning. Hello. How are you? #1063
Ukraine, seeing G-Wagon double, meeting a friend for the first time, BOX SETS so many box sets.
Good morning! Sorry I’m late. Jane was much better this morning. Like shockingly so. One cough all morning. It is utterly baffling how this thing can knock out Emma for a month, Jane for a day, me for not at all. I guess Jane really is the sum of her parents immunities or something.
After dropping her off at school — actually, some school notes. I think there might be TWO childlike brunette moms driving G-Wagons holding coffee cups, unless this mom inexplicably went through the car line twice this morning. Now I am very confused and am going to have to examine license plates. WTF.
Anyway, after that I went and visited my friend whom I had to bail on yesterday. It was great. We went to a coffee shop in Pittsboro. I had a cup of coffee. First one in several years. I feel like I’m on drugs I don’t know how people do this. It’s madness. Anyway, it was great to finally meet this friend, Mark, in person, we’ve been in the same Slack group that kept me sane through the pandemic. I am very into meeting people in person here in the Triangle, provided I can, you know, manage through kids and job and other job and my emotions (Male menopause. Is it a thing? Do I have it? Inquiring minds want to know) and whatnot. It was just jim dandy.
And then we just did the last all hands at work for the year. We are insanely trying to launch a big product in January while also trying to give everyone the holiday week off while also dealing with absentee clients but it is going to go just great just you watch. Power of a small, motivated team, etc. etc.
Went to the other house yesterday and checked on the painted pallets and stuff. The pallets themselves were just fine — rain didn’t effect them at all. Maybe because they were unsanded? Or I painted them first? At any case, this was god news. All the smaller, ancillary lumber was pretty washed up. Looks sophiticatedly weathered, actually. But I will touch it up. I’m just glad the gallon and a half or so that went on the pallets survived. Also I got in touch with the electrician so he is coming soon. EXCITING. I need to write up some stuff for him. Hopefully today, he says, like he says every day.
If you are wondering what’s up with Ukraine and can handle a little bit of doomerism in your life, this recent Fiona Hill interview is excellent, she is a sharp one. Ukraine is… it’s a big deal still. Fate on a knife’s edge and whatnot. Real future-of-democracy stuff going on here and we are not necessarily winning? I mean, we could win, but we are ADD-addled as a country and are distracted and the Republicans don’t want to give ole Joe a victory so they’re holding up the aid to Ukraine just so he can’t claim credit, even while they, you know, yell at him for abandoning Afghanistan. Every two bit and gold-plated dictator out there is seeing America waffle in its commitments. Ukraine gave up nukes! Because we said we’d protect it! Imagine every country in the same boat, now wondering if we really mean what we say. Terrifying. This is bad.
And yet here we are going about our lives because what else can you do my god the modern world is just an exercise in abject terror and pedestrianism impossibly yet implacably coexisting.
So let’s talk box sets! I was surfing the information highway yesterday when I learned, too late, about a new Acetone box set. Sold out everywhere. Marked up 100% on Discogs. This is BS. I need this box set my personal self image demands that I spend hundreds of dollars on this thing and listen to it once and place it on a shelf, never to be touched again. It is vital. It will sit right next to its brother, the new American Analog Set box set that I DID get ordered in time, because Numero group makes pressing runs of a reasonable size unlike this Nat West records business. I am irked.
Also the One Little Indian people are giving me guff about my Twilight Singers Box set damage. It feels like they are trying to get the shipping company to cover it on the insurance? It’s all very weird. I feel very stuck in the middle here. Now I gotta box up the old one, weigh it, measure it, give that info to the shipping company, who is now emailing me directly. But also OLI is telling me the shipping company is asking for more photos of the box damage and I’m like dude this thing arrived like two months ago I did not save the boxes. It’s getting to be a bit much.
But I am invested in this now. I am going to get that box.
I want to get that box. Wanna make the records happy wanna make me feel cool.
Eh I don’t have time for this today I gotta do some work. I love you. Take care.
W Hotel Lobby in a better, alternate universe. The 78th one. How many W hotels are there. Wikipedia tells me there are 67 locations worldwide. So I guess I have made enough of these playlists. One per lobby. You’re welcome, Starwood.
