Good morning. Hello. How are you? #1061
RIP Mike K. Chores. Cities: Skyline. Painting pallets. Mom went home. Plagiarism. Swans at the Paradise.
Good morning. Hello. How was your weekend? I hope it was solid. Mine was good. Friday I did the Walmart run, no real major insights to report there this week. Took my mom to the Neurologist, except it turned out to be a Cardiologist, so that was a weird mess up on someone’s part, probably me. Kind of crazy no one noticed, though, I talked to a dude, at length, before making the appointment, about examining some test results that were clearly on the head and not the heart (band name). But also I guess it sort of made sense? Anyway, that was a dumb wild goose chase but it was a chance to spend some time with my mom. Took her and my aunt to the airport Friday afternoon. So my mom and aunt’s three-week stay has ended. They will be missed.
Somewhere in between I spent some time paying the bills for the pool company and doing work I should not have had to do since it was a day off but whatever.
Saturday I spent the morning playing my sim game with Jane (she is very into painting zoning areas), and in the afternoon I busted out the paint sprayer and painted a bunch of pallets to make my compost bins, and it was immensely satisfying, paint sprayers rule, especially on the absurdly rough wood of pallets you’d never actually paint with a brush. It was great. Except it was about to rain and so I had to cover everything up and it was less than ideal. They are still covered up. I am scared to look. But I will go over there and face the music after lunch.
Sunday I spent the entire day cleaning the guest house after my mom’s visit. Oh crap it’s just occurring to me I forgot to change the battery on the tenant’s lock whoops I will do that today. Anyway, took me back to my housekeeper days, it was fun. Deep cleaning. Everything is spic n span now. Then Ricardo came over and we balanced the books for the pool company and sent out the bills. We were supposed to get the ditch dug to the greenhouse but rain rain rain so I didn’t make any progress on that thing and I am sad about that. Hopefully this week. This weekend was a taunt: warm but rainy. I just want one warmish, non-rainy weekend c’mon man. I didn’t move to the Carolinas to be cold.
Really I just played that sim game almost all weekend. Started a new city, I’m only. up to 30k pop but I am doing much better than the last one, though it turns out it is really hard to make affordable housing lol lol cmon developers, you’re Finnish throw a little socialism in there.
Yesterday after I finished an extended run, I was watching SNL with Emma (Olivia was great and A+ on the goth Olivia cameo) and I just kept seeing my sim game before my eyes it was really quite unhealty. And my arm is a little stiff from holding a Playstation controller for so long. And I kinda wanna just not do any work today and play some more, but this is why I bought it on the Playstation instead of my computer. So I wouldn’t be tempted. It really is quite satisfying.
Oh and I watched that four-hour video about plagiarism it was quite enjoyable for about three hours of it. That guy is funny. A lot of people on Youtube just rip other people off. I already knew this but it was satisfying to see someone bring such meticulously organized receipts. Had to watch it in little bouts over three… four days. Took forever. Then I insanely decided to start watching another two-hour video from the same guy, but I have not finished that one. Will I ever? Doubt it.
It was nice to be reminded of my essay about plagiarism, though, back when I wrote on Medium. Holds up, though a bit dated now. Kinda miss writing on Medium. They really missed the ball by not having an email component. I wonder why. Who knows. Maybe they have one now. Man. Maybe I should give Medium another chance.
Another friend died. Whitewater rafting. We weren’t friends, exactly. At one point we were archenemies, actually. Both fighting over a (really very wonderful) woman neither of us actually had a chance with. But we eventually reached a detente and then, slowly, through the years, on my visits, we’d learn to get along and enjoy each other’s company. My sister was much better friends with him, having not fallen in love with the woman. Anyway, I haven’t seen him in years, but I’m glad we found our peace. My heart goes out to his kids. Going out doing something you love, though. I’ll take it.
Swans at the Paradise in Boston! That is very, very exciting. I aspirationally bought some tickets. Doug and I are gonna try to go. We will probably both not make it, just like I did not make it to Angel Olsen last night, I am so sad. I don’t know why I keep buying concert tickets and not going I really need to stop doing this. Anyway, the Swans played the paradise on the Love of Life tour and it freakin ruled. I haven’t seen the Swans since 2014 because I am a snob and I refuse to see them in a big theater. So this will hit the spot. Also bought tickets for the Postal Service/Deathcab tour, which is coming here after all, so that is nice.
Jane insisted on an early Daddy Jane Dance Party on Sunday, which I was loathe to do because it’s descended into repetition but we negotiated and we agreed to watch some different videos. That was nice. We got St. Vincent and Robyn and Olivia (no surprise) but also Annie’s “Chewing Gum,” which Jane liked, so I finally introduced something new for the first time in ages. And The Bangles and Caroline Polacheck and the Ting Tings and Madonna. We had to watch both “Me” and “Look What you Made Me Do,” which, man, if there is a Taylor song more annoying than “Me” it’s “Look What you Me Do.” No one made you do anything, Taylor.
The scene where she just randomly holds up her Grammy… why.
Justa mix for you today, just made it. New and old, mostly guitar, except for an awesome Alan Parsons track from a couple years ago, go figure. This might be the album that the twins’ cousin played on I am not sure. Hrm let’s go look. Hrm. Doesn’t look like it. Storm did the cover, though, wow I didn’t know that guy was still designing.
Okay see you tomorrow. I was laying in bed last night and thought oh yes, that is the perfect GMHHAY topic but then I forgot what it was and I fell asleep. Whoops. We will try again tomorrow.
