Good morning. Hello. How are you? #1058
Short n sweet. A series of setbacks does not daunt me today, not today, Wednesday. Obligatory annual post of my Christmas Rap. Best Dr. Who episode ever.
Good morning, hi, etc. Wednesday. Wednesday is a fine day. Gotta take my mom to get her covid and flu vaccines for her today. Her old iPhone 7 is dying so I gotta grab my old 11 (pro?) and reformat it and put her sim in and get all her apps working I’m sure that will take forever. I only have two days. Got a company meeting over which I need to preside and do a little presenting in about two hours. It is daddy bedtime tonight. Wednesday.
Last night I played my Sim City ripoff game and my entire city collapsed and everyone moved out because it was too noisy and I built some inexpensive housing. I spent a bajillion dollars depressing a freeway into the ground to make it quieter and no one cared, they just left me anyway. Abandoned me without a care in the world. No policy, no budget level could turn the tide, and eventually my city of 90,000 people had 4,000 people in it and I was 2 million in debt. Really was something. I started destroying everything trying to rebuild from a small downtown core, but it was no good. I didn’t have enough money to build a single road or pipe and it was going to take decades for those 4,000 people to garner enough tax revenue to get me out of the hole. Weirdly, tourists kept coming, even after I bulldozed all the very expensive tourist attractions. Goodbye old fort, goodbye space elevator, international airport, luxury hotel. All gone.
It was pretty depressing.
Also my burrito order was wrong, it a burrito for some dude named Trey and it had beans in it so that was really sad.
Also it turns out that my new toothpaste cap holder is not a rock-and-roll devil hands sign, it is the hang-loose / mahalo / love sign, which means it is not at all punk rock to have some blood on a finger. Maybe goth. I guess in hindsight this should have been obvious, and I do know the difference between the two signs, I just spaced it. All of this is a long way to say does anyone know how to cut porcelain, because now I need to cut the index finger off on this thing. I’m in too deep to stop now.
Also the Screaming Females broke up and I am very sad and I only got to see them twice ever but once was from side stage that was awesome (thank you Ted and Jodi) and I will miss them and this is a bummer. I suppose they will (hopefully) each go on to do something great but you never know, man. Maybe they all have greenhouses to build and are proponents of modest living. You just never know.
Speaking of music here is my Christmas song, I am contractually obliged to post it once a Christmas in the hopes that this is the year that it becomes a viral hit, and the best way to do that is absolutely to post it to a small Substack, not do a Tiktok or something.
It really is a great song. I was listening to the criminally underrated band To Those I Love and was thinking about his singsong rapping and was considering doing that again on some future musical project, you know, in X number of years when I am out of this job and my studio is finally built. I enjoyed my brief hip hop career. I wore a lab coat and a mirror on my head. It was 2002. Nerdcore before it existed.
The other night Emma and I watched number 2 of the Doctor Who specials and I have to say that having seen pretty much every Dr Who ever (thank you, Anne, and her older brothers), this was probably legit the best Dr. Who episode ever. It was really something. I am not even a fan. But it was… yeah solid plot, solid effects (in Dr Who!), emotional characters and resonance and yeah just A+ all around. Rick approved Dr Who. The 25th season, 1988 series The Happiness Patrol with Sylvester McCoy where he momentarily sings the blues is now relegated to second place.
What else has transpired in the last 24 hours. I took a very hot shower it was awesome might do it again today. I am losing weight, so I’m constantly freezing, really is something. Just freezing constantly. Emma is sick again, she has another sinus infection, and she might have pink eye. Is that TMI Emma? I am sorry. Anyway, this meant that I picked Jane up from school, which I confess I kinda love. I did not expect this. I get there an hour early and sit in my awesome truck and do work and it is just fine.
Oh right our plans are finalized and we are going to be in Boston for Christmas eve that is very exciting. We should all make a plan. You know, those of us who will be in Boston and don’t have familial obligations on Christmas Eve.
Hrm I seem to be running out of things to talk about today I should have made better use of my notepad in the last 24 hours.
Guess we’ll just keep this one nice and short. No need to dive into politics or AI or some shit just to get the word count. I’ll just enjoy a day where my brain isn’t thinking about that nonsense.
Drone playlist. Man. Listening to nothing but the Twilight Singers for five days really was murder on the playlist back catalog. May have cheated a bit here, but I cheated with two great songs, man, what I wouldn’t do to hear the Dandy’s play “It’s a Fast Driving Rave Up With The Dandy Warhols Sixteen Minutes” live one more time.
I was thinking in the car that Jane’s not really experienced a proper rock show yet. I mean, she’s seen New Order and the Pet Shop Boys and The Cure but all from very far back in the audience and not really ROCK. She hasn’t experience the visceral overwhelmingness of a four- or five-piece rock band doing its thing. She saw the Spinanes but she was too young to remember. Kinda wanna bring her to one. Maybe I should bring her to Unwound next year, lol.
Talk tomorrow I will try and use my notebook today honest.
